what’s going on?
The UN has described the Rohingya situation as the “world’s fastest growing refugee crisis”. Fleeing religious intolerance and violence in the Rakhine State in Myanmar, nearly 1 million Rohingya Muslims have become refugees in Bangladesh and elsewhere.
why is this happening?
The predominantly-Buddhist government of Myanmar denies citizenship to Rohingya Muslims and excluded them from the 2014 census, refusing to recognize them as people - BBC
Rohingya Muslims have been feeling Myanmar since the 1970s, with the most recent exodus starting in August 2017 when the Myanmar military began burning villages and attacking Rohingya Muslims after a group of Rohingya militants attacked police posts - BBC
